Titian, ‘Diana and Acteon’

Painted between 1556 and 1559, this famous painting by Titian depicts the myth of the hunter Actaeon who, accidentally (or perhaps not…), stumbles across the goddess Diana naked, while she bathes in a clearing deep in the woods. This invasion of both her chastity and her divine space incite her to turn the hunter into a stag, leaving him to the fate of his own hunting dogs.
