Watercolour (1769) by Alejo Berlinguero, one of the foremost Spanish naval cartographers and painters of the 18th century. This piece shows two ships in distress in the great ‘Southern Sea’ near Tierra del Fuego, which the vessels had been sent to chart. Archivo General de Indias, Seville.
